Whatcha consuming now?
I'm making my way through Sarah Hoyt's backlist, and stumbled onto her Magical Shakespeare series (published in the early 00's by Ace/Berkeley) and they are super delightful. The language use is just delicious. I really enjoyed them. Starts with "Ill Met by Moonlight" (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C4ZBB48).
In between those, I've been making my (very slow) way through Jordan Peterson's new book, Beyond Order. He makes new explodey things in my head every page.
Stuff like this, in the chapter about how we need community/relationships to be healthy: "Simply put: We outsource the problem of sanity. People remain mentally healthy not merely because of the integrity of their own minds, but because they are constantly being reminded how to think, act, and speak by those around them."
Later: "We learn to see and act in the manner of the heroes of the stories that captivate us. These stories call to capacities that lie deep within our nature but might still never develop without that call. We are dormant adventurers, lovers, leaders, artists, and rebels, but need to discover that we are all those things by seeing the reflection of such patterns in dramatic and literary form. That is part of being a creature that is part nature and part culture."
...part nature and part culture. o_o
Anyway, what are you reading, and do you anything highlighted?
